Ghent University alumni association elects Tim Berckmoes as 'Engineer of the Year 2022'

04 Okt. 2022

Tim Berckmoes, CEO Anglo Belgian Corporation (ABC), has been elected 'Engineer of the Year 2022' by the alumni association of Ghent University engineering graduates.

Every year, the AIG (the alumni association of engineers who graduated from UGent) and the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture of the same university honour an alumnus or alumna who recently realised a major innovation or achievement.

This year, the choice fell on Tim Berckmoes, CEO of ABC, manufacturer of medium-speed engines for heavy-duty applications. From that position, he has ensured for more than 10 years that ABC engines are always at the forefront of increasingly stringent environmental standards. Under his impetus, there is continuous investment in research and production facilities and the company remains at the forefront of energy transition. And ABC is growing fast. Just last week, for instance, Anglo Belgian Corporation announced the acquisition of Evergem-based E. Van Wingen NV (EVW), a (inter)national leading specialist in energy solutions with diesel and gas engines.

In 2020, Tim Berckmoes and ABC had a world first with the launch of BeHydro dual fuel hydrogen engines. These hydrogen engines can reduce emissions by up to 85% in ships, land-based power generation and locomotives. Earlier this year, ABC again made positive headlines when it presented a range of 100% hydrogen engines for industrial applications through BeHydro, a joint venture between ABC and CMB.TECH. That development earned ABC the very first Ghent Climate Prize, an initiative of the Ghent Climate Forum, in its home city last summer.
