21 ABC pump sets heading to Africa for WAPCO Project
21 Mar 2023
Anglo Belgian Corporation (ABC) announced today that the 21 pumping sets, which will be used for transporting crude oil from the Agadem oil field in Niger to the Benin port of Sèmè, have left the ABC factory in Ghent, Belgium. These pump sets, each equipped with a reliable 8DZC engine, will be spread across these pumping stations to ensure the flow of crude oil, through the 2,000-km pipeline, from this summer. Two stations will be equipped with electrically driven pumps and 7 pumping stations will be equipped with 3 ABC 8DZC driven pump sets each.
Chinese company West African Oil Pipeline Company (WAPCO) specialises in oil pipeline construction. This subsidiary of Chinese giant CNPC awarded ABC the contract to build nine pumping stations along the pipeline in 2020. The contract also includes all necessary auxiliaries (Canopy, radiators, fuel treatment system, etc.) and the electrical part (with the support of ABC CONTRACTING) for the smooth operation of these pumping stations.
The oil pipeline is almost 2,000 km long and runs from the oil field in Niger to the port of Seme, from where the barrels of crude oil will be exported; 1,300 km of pipeline to transport the precious crude oil was constructed in Niger and 700 km in Benin.
Twenty-one ABC 8DZC engines and 10 electric motors are to drive the pumps that will transport the crude oil from Niger to Benin. Both the ABC engines and pumps, and the entire "packaging" with all auxiliaries were assembled and extensively tested at the ABC plant in Ghent, Belgium.
Raphaël Marchandise, ABC Sales Director Africa, is very proud of the choice of ABC engines: "I am really proud that ABC, with products manufactured in Belgium/Europe, was chosen by a major Chinese company for such an important project. Both on a technical and human level, it is a fantastic project, and it is a real pleasure to work with a partner of the calibre of WAPCO. Passionate about Africa, I am also happy that this project will increase the income of local people and create about 150 permanent jobs and 2,000 temporary jobs. It also creates future income for Niger State and Benin! Together, let’s build Africa!”
