ABC signs contract with FRERK Aggregatebau GmbH for 7 medium speed power generating sets for Germany
10 Feb 2023
Anglo Belgian Corporation (ABC) today announced to have signed a contract with FRERK Aggregatebau GmbH from Schweringen, Germany, to supply seven +5000 HP V16 engine powered generating sets. These medium speed gensets, to be packaged by FRERK Aggregatebau GmbH into modular 15x4m super silenced containers, will provide a reliable source of energy for Germany’s largest Salt Mining Company at 4 different locations.
The contract with FRERK Aggregatebau GmbH is a new milestone for ABC to enter, beside the already well-established marine business, also successfully into the German land-based power generation market.
The contract covers seven 1000 rpm medium speed engines:
- Four dual fuel peak power gensets, each with a power output of 2,5 MWe and capable to run on 95% gas & 5% liquid fuel or on liquid fuel only incl. exhaust gas cleaning. The dual fuel gensets provide flexibility, allowing the customer to replace their existing peak power gas only driven gensets by a dual fuel configuration, making them no longer dependent on just one fuel today.
- Three liquid fuelled emergency gensets with a power output of 3,5MWe per unit, each capable of bearing the critical large consumers such as blowers for the vital oxygen supply of the mine. Here, the customer does not have to start several small 1500 rpm gensets and wait until they are synchronised to be able to switch on the high power required. Furthermore, the ABC engines are started directly on the cylinders via a fail-safe 30bar air-start device instead of 24VDC starter batteries with starter motors.
The conflict situation in Eastern Europe poses major challenges for many European, energy-intensive companies who depend on a reliable and stable energy supply. As an independent, customer-focused supplier of mineral products for the agriculture, industry, consumer, and community sectors, the end customer - a large German Mining Group - is taking the necessary measures to be prepared for possible power shortages up to 72 hrs in Germany as requested by the local government.
Erik Jan Plog, Area Sales Manager ABC Germany, spoke: “We are very pleased for this first contract for land-based power generation in Germany since long time. Our medium speed engines are renowned for their reliability and user-friendliness. We thank FRERK Aggregatebau GmbH, whom we acknowledge as German manufacturer of first class modular containerized gensets with 50 years of experience, for awarding us this particular contract and look forward to see our ABC engines installed in Germany.”
Sascha Epacher, Project Lead at FRERK Aggregatebau GmbH, said: “We are looking forward to the cooperation. With ABC as partner, we have access to engines that can run on a wide variety of fuels (hydrogen / dual fuel / methanol). In our view, this innovation and flexibility will become increasingly important in the future.”
