First modernised 2TE10 locomotive leaves DLRR for Ukraine

25 Jan 2022

The modernisation project of 2TE10 mainline locomotives with ABC engines is well underway as the first 2TE10 locomotive left the Daugavpils Locomotive Repair Plant (DLRR) in Latvia to end customer Metinvest Holding in Ukraine.

This modernised, diesel-electric 2TE10 locomotive consists of 2 sections, each equipped with an efficient 8DZC engine from Anglo Belgian Corporation (ABC). The 8DZC engines replace the two-stroke 10-cylinder inline engines and provide a reliable power source with lower fuel and lubricating oil consumption and lower emissions.

In 2018, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed with Skinest Rail, an Estonian group active in the railway sector, for the modernisation of 40 TE10 locomotives. The official signing with Skinest Rail took place in July 2020. This multinational company with subsidiaries in several countries has extensive experience in maintaining and modernising locomotives. Skinest Rail assigned the implementation of this modernisation project to the Daugavpils Locomotive Repair Plant (DLRR) in Latvia.

Final testing and commissioning of both TE10 locomotives will start after arrival in Ukraine. With the choice of robust 8DZC heavy-duty engines to power the TE10 locomotives, Metinvest Holding continues to focus on the sustainable development of its activities.
