Innovative EVOLVE 4EL23 engine eye-catcher at Design Fest Ghent

12 Apr 2022

Anglo Belgian Corporation (ABC), together with the Ghent-based product design agency Pars Pro Toto, is participating in the first edition of Design Fest Gent, a new biennial 10-day festival that offers space for designers to present ground-breaking ideas. As a partner of the event and especially for the occasion, the innovative, future-proof 4EL23 engine has been given a style room in the Design Museum in Ghent, where it will be one of the many eye-catchers.

By focusing on sustainability in all its facets, Design Fest not only wants to inspire the visitors and residents of Ghent but also challenge them and encourage dialogue. The festival encourages creativity and will become a matchmaker for new collaborations between designers, knowledge institutions, organizations and the industry.

An extensive range of installations, workshops and lectures are bundled in three content clusters: Look Back, Move Forward and Do Care. Look Back shows projects bringing together craft, tradition and new technology. Move forward focuses on hybrid collaborations between science, design and technology with nature as a blueprint. Do Care gathers designs with a social impact.

The festival showcases a unique selection of existing projects and new creation assignments, which were selected under the supervision of curator Siegrid Demyttenaere in close dialogue with the partners of the festival and six co-curators Christel De Maeyer, Nathalie Goethals, Heleen Sintobin, Unfold: Claire Warnier and Dries Verbruggen, Bram Vanderbeke and Sep Verboom.

The projects on display during Design Fest Gent show the diversity and stratification of the concept of design: research design, participative design, social design, design thinking, industrial & object design, educational design, experimental design, activism, and imaginative design.

ABC frontrunner in Cleantech

Will ports, just like cities, become low-emission zones? Will hydrogen replace all other fuels? The future is not yet completely clear... agility is needed!
The brand new and innovative EVOLVE engine platform provides answers. EVOLVE simplifies the energy transition from conventional to new and future fuel types.

With the unique EVOLVE engines ABC wants to help its business partners on their way to zero-emission. These multi-fuel engines offer the best efficiency for any fuel type. The first engine in the range is a compact but very powerful medium-speed 4-cylinder engine: the EVOLVE 4EL23.

4EL23 - section view cylinder heads

With EVOLVE ABC makes conversion to new fuel types possible with exactly the same engine and at low cost. It is perfectly possible to use the same, sustainable EVOLVE engine also with other fuels such as hydrogen, methanol, etc.
This allows the customer to invest safely, smartly and in a future-proof manner, regardless of what the future (available) fuel or (regional) regulations may be.

4EL23 - Exploaded view engine shell

Anglo Belgian Corporation developed, together with the Ghent-based product design agency Pars Pro Toto, the engine shell that gives the 4EL23 a sleek and modern look. But there is more. For ABC, design is an integral part of functionality. The engine shell protects both engine and operator from damage or injury. It reduces heat, noise, and vibrations. In addition, the casing can be removed without tools and the engine status can be easily observed by means of a changing LED light on the turbo.
