27 May 2026
Last Saturday, the new pelagic trawler Sunbeam was christened and delivered in Fosnavåg, Norway. The 73-metre vessel, designed by Salt Ship Design and built by Myklebust Verft AS, is powered by an ABC 8DL36 engine.
The 8-cylinder D36 inline engine features a 365 mm bore and a maximum continuous rating (MCR) of 5,200 kW at 750 rpm, delivering the performance, reliability and fuel efficiency required for modern pelagic fishing operations. It supports vessel operators in meeting both operational and environmental objectives while maintaining high productivity at sea.
Pieter Boeykens, Senior Sales Manager at ABC, commented: “From the very beginning of this project, there has been a strong and constructive collaboration with Sunbeam Fishing Limited. Throughout the discussions, their clear vision for modern and efficient fishing operations consistently came to the forefront, together with a high level of confidence in our technology. This combination of craftsmanship, entrepreneurship and cooperation strongly reflects what ABC stands for. We are therefore pleased to have successfully delivered this project together.”
ABC thanks Sunbeam Fishing Ltd. for their trust and wishes the crew fair winds, calm seas and tight lines aboard their new vessel.
