Watch: Japan’s First Hydrogen Tugboat in Action
03 mars 2026
We are proud to share the video of Ten-Oh, Japan’s first hydrogen-powered tugboat, showcasing hydrogen propulsion at work in real maritime operations.
Built by TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING Co., Ltd., the vessel is powered by two BeHydro V12 dual fuel hydrogen engines, each delivering 1,618 kW. The engines provide the same operational performance as conventional marine propulsion while enabling significant CO₂ reductions, showing that hydrogen is ready for demanding working vessels today.
The project forms part of The Nippon Foundation’s Zero Emission Ships Project and represents an important milestone for JPNH2YDRO, which supplied the hydrogen fuel systems.
BeHydro, a joint venture between ABC Engines and CMB.TECH, continues to demonstrate how dual fuel hydrogen technology can accelerate maritime decarbonisation today.
