ABC Engines Wins HITT Industry Award

08 oct. 2026

ABC Engines has been honoured with the HITT Industry Award, presented by Voka Oost-Vlaanderen, the East Flanders Chamber of Commerce in Belgium, to organisations that are helping to shape the future of East Flanders. The award was presented during HITT Fest at The Lab Ghent, bringing together entrepreneurs, researchers, students and policymakers to discuss innovation, entrepreneurship and the future of the region.

The HITT Awards form part of HITT (Health, Industry & Technology Tomorrow), Voka Oost-Vlaanderen's long-term initiative aimed at positioning East Flanders as a leading international economic region by 2050. The programme focuses on three areas in which East Flanders seeks to excel internationally: health, industry and technology. In addition, it emphasises three key enablers: talent, space and entrepreneurship.

During the inaugural edition of the HITT Awards, ABC Engines was named winner in the Industry category. According to the jury, the Ghent-based engine manufacturer demonstrates how a strong industrial heritage can go hand in hand with innovation and technological advancement. Particular recognition was given to the company's investments in robotics at the Vynckier site and its collaboration with young technical talent through UGent Racing.

For more than a century, ABC Engines has been developing and manufacturing engines for applications in the maritime, rail and power generation sectors. At the same time, the company continues to invest in the technologies and production methods of tomorrow. Innovation remains a key driver, both in manufacturing processes and in the development of new engine platforms and alternative fuel solutions.

Commenting on the award, Tim Berckmoes, CEO of ABC Engines, said: "We are truly honoured to receive the HITT Industry Award. At ABC Engines, we remain committed to innovation and technology through our new Evolve engine platform, designed to operate on a range of fuels including hydrogen, methanol and now ethanol. Through our robotics initiative at the Vynckier site, we aim to strengthen the competitiveness of the manufacturing industry while attracting both emerging and experienced talent, including partners such as UGent Racing. We would like to thank Voka Oost-Vlaanderen for this unique HITT initiative, which will provide a further positive boost to the local economy."

For ABC, the HITT Industry Award is a valued recognition of the company's strategic direction: building on a rich industrial legacy while continuing to invest in sustainable growth, technological innovation and the development of future-ready talent.

We would like to thank Voka Oost-Vlaanderen, the jury and all partners involved for this recognition. The company also congratulates the other laureates whose entrepreneurial spirit and innovative mindset are helping to shape the future of East Flanders.
