Emission compliance

Classification

ABC engines comply to all environmental requirements
One of ABC's typical characteristics is that it keeps focusing at the future and continues to invest in research and development. To minimize the carbon footprint of its customers, Anglo Belgian Corporation is constantly working on optimizing its standard engines.

All the engines in our portfolio are in accordance with the latest emission legislations. Depending on the application, this is IMO Tier II and IMO Tier III (seagoing vessels, tugboats, ferries, ...), CCNR 2 (inland vessels), EU Stage V, etc...

As emission regulations will become more and more stringent, ABC tends to be already ahead of future emissions restrictions. This is done by continuous improvement in-house using engines especially build for this testing purpose.

  • IMO Tier 0 & I

Customers who have purchased an ABC engine in the past, can make use of engine upgrades. These improvements may relate to engine efficiency, fuel consumption, emissions, use of alternative fuels and monitoring. Find out more about our engine upgrades...

  • IMO Tier II

All ABC engines fully comply with IMO Tier II regulations.

  • IMO Tier III

Our 6/8DZC and 12/16 (V)DZC engines can be equipped with a catalytic converter to comply with IMO Tier III regulations. ABC received type approval for its SCR aftertreatment system, whereby it is certified that the catalytic converter, in combination with an ABC engine, fully complies with IMO Tier III standards.

The 6/8DL36 and 12/16DV36 engines are IMO Tier III certified. Introducing innovative technology such as exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), variable valve timing (VVT), 2-stage turbocharging, Miller timing and a radically optimized common rail system, the 6DL36 engines can comply with IMO’s Tier III NOx regulations without catalyst while maintaining very low fuel and lube oil consumption.
For those applications not requiring IMO Tier III, a full mechanical version is available. ABC offers solutions that allow customers to opt for a 6/8DL36 and 12/16DV36 engine without EGR but with catalyst (SCR). The choice of an engine with EGR or SCR depends, among other things, on the ship's sailing profile, the area where the ship is deployed, etc...

  • EU STAGE V

When choosing an ABC after-treatment system, one gets 100% European quality. ABC’s EAT solutions are manufactured and assembled according to European standards, guaranteeing business reliability, service and short delivery times.

The implementation of an EAT System is challenging. An important advantage of ABC’s solutions lies in the fact that we have a flexible and modular system.

For IMO Tier III we have type approval of our EAT system in combination with our ABC engine. This allows us to navigate in ECA zones. When leaving the ECA zone we can switch off our SCR and the engine will comply with IMO Tier II limits.

We also have an EAT solution to meet the stringent Stage V according to EU2016/1628 emission limit which is required for inland water way vessels. The set up will consist of a DPF and SCR. This allows us to go down to ultra low levels of particles and NOx.

For seagoing vessels, we can offer a similar EAT system which will lead to an ULEV (Ultra Low Emission Vessel) notation. For owners operating near to populated area’s this can have some advantages: this green image will attract customers, increase the odds of winning tenders based on a more sustainable way of operating, …
