Engine upgrades
One of typical characteristics of ABC is that it continues to focus on research and development. The company is constantly working on optimizing and modernizing its engines. Customers who have purchased an ABC engine in the past, can make use of engine upgrades. These improvements may relate to engine efficiency, fuel consumption, emissions, use of alternative fuels and monitoring.
Engine efficiency
Existing customers who changed their sailing profile, wanting to further increase the efficiency of their engine(s), can go to ABC for checking and mapping the fuel and oil consumption. By optimizing engine/propulsion/sailing profile (eg. turbo adjustment at part load, reduction engine speed, ...) important gains can be realized.
Fuel consumption
Installing fuel flow meters allows you to closely monitor your fuel consumption. They record your real consumption, allowing you to view the history of your fuel consumption and, if necessary, make adjustments to your sailing profile. This also ensures that the crew onboard ship understand their responsibilities. By using our fuel flow meters, it is also possible to detect wear of injection material at an early stage. Additional gains can also be achieved by further optimization of the engine speed/load ratio. Monitoring consumption is just one example, but there are more.
Emissions
Both on land and sea, increasingly stringent emission regulations are creating challenges. For marine applications we can convert existing IMO Tier 0 and I engines to IMO Tier II engines. ABC also offers solutions for inland navigation to comply with the future CCR-III, EURO STAGE V and CCR-IV standards. By opting for an ABC after-treatment system, emissions can be reduced to a minimum. ABC offers a wide range of possibilities and techniques (including catalysts, urea injection, water emulsion, diesel particulate filter, ...) so that your ship always meets the strictest environmental requirements.
Alternative fuels
ABC attaches great importance to fuel diversity meaning the ABC engines can run on alternative fuels (HFO, CNG, LNG, methanol, biofuels, ...). In addition to Marine Gasoil (MGO) or Marine Diesel Oil (MDO), medium-speed engines are ideal for using alternative fuels. The reason lies in the fact that common rail technology is often used in high-speed engines whereas ABC medium-speed engines typically have mechanical injection. With medium-speed engines, the combustion time is greater because of the lower rotational speed, which gives the possibility to burn more difficult fuels - such as HFO (Heavy Fuel Oil) and biofuels – compared to distilled fuels such as MDO, LFO, ULSD, … This also means that medium-speed engines consume less than high-speed counterparts.
ABC has a lot of knowledge and expertise for the conversion of existing ABC engines.
Monitoring
You are also at the right address for an upgrade or extension of the engine monitoring system. For example, the engine monitoring system can be equipped with a remote monitoring system allowing you to monitor your fleet in an efficient manner. In addition, many extensive automation options are available that maintain connectivity with other systems on board the ship. Finally, it is possible to opt for extensive data recording of alarms, temperatures, pressures, …
