TEN-OH Sets Sail: Japan’s First Hydrogen-Powered Tugboat Goes into Service
20 Jan. 2026
On 14 January, BeHydro celebrated the delivery of TEN-OH, Japan’s first hydrogen-powered tugboat. This state-of-the-art vessel is powered by two BeHydro V12 dual-fuel hydrogen engines, each delivering 1,618 kW at 968 rpm.
With the TEN-OH, and with HYDROTUG 1 already in operation at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges, ABC is proud to see BeHydro’s hydrogen combustion engine technology delivering real-world decarbonisation and demonstrating that hydrogen is ready for maritime operations today.
BeHydro is a joint venture between two Belgian companies, ABC and CMB.TECH. The partnership brings together the expertise of a multi-fuel engine manufacturer with the operational insight of a leading shipping company, accelerating the development of practical hydrogen solutions for heavy-duty applications.
In September 2020, BeHydro successfully launched its dual-fuel hydrogen engine range for heavy-duty use, enabling customers to significantly reduce their carbon footprint. Building on this milestone, the company introduced a 100% hydrogen engine range in May 2022. BeHydro now offers both dual-fuel and mono-fuel hydrogen engines for marine, industrial and railway applications, covering a power range from 1 MW to 2.6 MW.
These ready-to-use, widely deployable solutions allow customers to start reducing their CO₂ emissions today, partially or even entirely.
We wish the crew of TEN-OH safe operations and every success.
