ABC Engines Power OMMP’s RAmparts 2800 Tugboat Series

13 Jan. 2026

With the delivery of the RAmparts 2800 tugboat series, powered by ABC eight-cylinder DZ engines, Tunisia’s Office of the Merchant Marine and Ports (OMMP) will expand its harbour towage, escort and emergency response capabilities.

Built by MED MARINE in Turkey to a design by Robert Allan Ltd, the six newbuild azimuth stern drive (ASD) tugboats are engineered for a wide range of operational duties, including ship handling, towing, mooring and emergency response. Measuring 28.2 metres in length and delivering a bollard pull of 60 tonnes ahead, the vessels combine compact dimensions with robust performance for modern port operations.

Each tug is equipped with twin ABC 8DZC medium-speed diesel engines, selected for their reliability, efficiency and suitability for demanding harbour environments. The propulsion configuration supports excellent manoeuvrability and operational control, while enabling additional capabilities such as FiFi-E class firefighting and flexible deck arrangements.

ABC would like to thank the Office of the Merchant Marine and Ports (OMMP) for its trust in ABC’s proven medium-speed engine technology throughout this fleet renewal programme.
